Stand Mixer Grain Mill Attachments vs. Countertop Mills

Updated 2026-11-04

If you already own a stand mixer, an attachment looks like the cheap way in. It can be, as long as you bake in small batches.

The two main options

KitchenAid All Metal Grain Mill (KGM). Retail listings describe a metal attachment with twelve grind settings for low-moisture, low-oil grains such as wheat, oats, corn and rice. KaTom's listing says it grinds up to 10 cups at a time and recommends a 45-minute cool-down after that. We could not reach KitchenAid's own page, so confirm these details in the manual.

Mockmill stone attachment. Mockmill lists a stone attachment for stand mixers at $255 on the date we checked. We have not verified its specs in detail or which mixers it fits, so check compatibility with your model first.

Who should choose which

An attachment suits someone who already owns a compatible mixer, wants to try milling and bakes a loaf or two at a time.

A dedicated mill suits someone who bakes several times a week, wants to mill and mix at once or does not want to put extra load on the mixer. The comparison in cost is not always large either. The Mockmill attachment's $255 was just $6 more than the NutriMill Impact's $249 on the day we checked.

Before you buy any attachment, read your mixer's manual. Using an attachment outside its limits could affect the mixer's warranty, so check that first.
